General Description

The Enterprise Control Systems Ltd (ECS) Ethernet Wasp COFDM Data Terminal is a small, ruggedised unit designed to be covertly deployed and used for surveillance in city and rural areas. The Wasp has been designed for the harshest environments. The unit can simultaneously transmit and receive Ethernet data. The transmit power from the transceiver is programmable up to 1 Watt nominal. The use of a separate, optional power amplifier is available to provide power up to 10 Watts nominal.
The ECS Wasp Data Terminal uses a PC-based Graphical User Interface (GUI) connected on the Local Area Network enabling comprehensive control and programming of the unit. Remote control of the data terminal at the far end is also possible.
COFDM parameters are fully controllable to allow a pair of Ethernet Wasps to provide high date-rate short-range network connectivity or a robust longer-range link. The system has integrated Substitution Cipher Encryption or Advanced Encryption Standard 256-bit (AES is subject to export licence approval). Decryption and receive matching parameters are automatic. A data buffer is incorporated within the data terminal; this will buffer input data when the data temporarily exceeds the available bandwidth of the link ensuring that packets are not lost.
The Ethernet Wasp is used with one transmit and two receive antennas. Diversity receive operation has been shown to improve the received signal quality by around 6 dB, significantly improving range.
