COFDM Diversity Receiver Modules
The VLDR-IF-28 & VLDR-IF-28-HD are receivers designed for installation on rotary and fixed-wing airframes as part of ground-to-air or air-to-air link system. Each receiver uses two antennas in diversity to receive, decode and decrypt Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (COFDM) signals. The receivers are compatible with the full range of Enterprise Control System Ltd (ECS) ground and air transmitters.

General Description

A receiver system comprises of: the VLDR receiver with dual Intermediate Frequency (IF) inputs, two air-certified, modular Low Noise Block downconverters (LNB), two omnidirectional antennas and a Remote Control Unit (RCU) as the air operator’s control interface. The system provides ground-to-air or air-to-air reception of video, audio and data. Used in conjunction with an ECS air transmitter, the aircraft can be used as a ground-air-ground rebroadcast unit significantly extending tactical ground link range.
 
The receiver has a sophisticated channel state indicator system providing an accurate measurement of received signal to noise performance. This system selects the best available information from the dual antenna inputs in real time, on a carrier-by-carrier basis. Diversity operation has been shown to provide a 6-8 dB link budget advantage over an equivalent single antenna receiver system.
 
The receiver incorporates Substitution Cipher or Advanced Encryption Standard 256-bit decryption. (AES is subject to export license approval). The receiver is frequency band independent having IF inputs.
 
The High Definition variant: VLDR-HD-IF-28 can receive both Standard Definition (SD) and High Definition (HD) video (1 HD or 1 SD channel dependant on the transmission source). HD quality at 1280 x 720p is compressed using H.264.
